1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup margarine
or butter
2
eggs
1
tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp.
salt
1/2 cup
sugar
3-31/4 cups
bread flour
1 1/2 tsp. yeast
FILLING
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup chopped
walnuts or pecans
1/2 cup raisins
egg wash and sugar for sprinkling over top
Place milk, margarine, eggs, vanilla, salt, sugar, flour, and yeast
in the bread
machine pan in the order listed. Make dough on dough cycle.
Remove dough from machine and shape into 3 long, thin rectangles.
Mix sugar, nuts
and raisins. Spread 1/3 of the nut-raisin mixture along the
middle of each
rectangle and fold dough over filling to encase it. Braid
rectangles together
and place in a lightly greased loaf pan. Let rise for
about 30 minutes.
Brush with lightly beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake in a preheated
350 degree oven for 30 to 35 minutes until brown.
Makes one loaf.
The second time
I made the loaf I added more nuts and it was much better,
I have also
only used pecans so I don't know if walnuts would have a
stronger flavor.
Rather than sprinkling sugar over the bread before baking
you can also
sift powdered sugar over after baking, I prefer the sugar while
baking because
it is less messy to eat. ;-)
